I also had the 6A00 Error on my aging MX7600. The pushing-the-sponge-down trick did not work for me. What finally did work involved a part just to the right of the sponges that the print head parks over. Its a white plastic piece, Mine was stuck in a forward position. After much poking around in there, I realized that this piece can slide toward the rear of the machine. And for me, that was what had to happen to get past the error message. Just pushed it toward the rear as far as it would go, slide the print head back in place and it finally started up normally again. I hope this helps anyone out there who might still have one of these still working.
