How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

Click Settings, and then click Printers and Scanners. From the list of printers available, select the Canon printer. Press the Properties tab and check whether you have enabled color printing on your Canon printer. If color printing is not enabled, you should proceed to enable it.
Select your model name and click `Preferences` (or `Properties`). The printer driver setup window appears. On the Quick Setup tab, click on the `Grayscale Printing` check-box to remove the check-mark.
Go to Control panel and then Devices and Printers. Find and right-click on your printer and click on Printing Preferences. Go to Quick Setup tab and then select Grayscale.
First, check your printer settings on the file or picture your trying to print. If your page is setup to print in “grayscale” it will only print in black and white. Change the setting to “default” so it will print in color. If your settings look good from the start, the cartridge may just need to be primed.
There`s a trick to printing in color: You must select the color printer in the print menu AND make sure the document is set to print in color under “Printer Properties.” (Most of the time, the color printers default to “color” as the output).
Once inside the printer dialogue, select Manage, followed by Printer Preferences, and Paper/Quality. Once the window appears, select the Color option and then click OK. Your printer should now default to color printing.
Print with black or color ink only

Open the printer driver setup window. From the Page Setup tab, select Print Options. From the Print With: drop-down, select Color Only or Black Only.

If ink is not coming out when you perform printing for the first time, it is possible that ink is not flowing into the printer properly. Make sure each ink tank is filled with ink to its upper limit and perform ink flush. If the problem is not resolved yet, the print head may be damaged.
When color ink is expended and black ink still remains, you can continue printing for a short time using only black ink. However, you should replace the expended ink cartridge(s) as soon as possible.
If you`re still experiencing Canon ink cartridge cannot be recognized, try to hold down the Stop/Cancel button for 15 seconds. It`s a circle with a triangle inside.

Canon Pixma MP610 won't print in black
ANSWER : Printer cleanings use wet ink to clear dried up ink. Yeah, that works real well. The best way to clean the heads is remove all the ink tanks. Next to the tanks on the right, there is a plastic release lever. Pull up on it and it will release the heads. Reach in and pull them out. Take the heads over to the sink and run hot tap water into the screen for the black and then turn it over and run it over the heads on the bottom. Repeat a few times and reinstall.
