It`s usually because the printhead inside your printer is clogged or dried out. Like with most printers, Canon printheads can clog due to ink or dust drying up and collecting in the nozzle.

If the nozzle check pattern shows adequate ink, but the printer doesn`t print color, clean the printhead. After that, print a nozzle check pattern. After performing printhead cleaning, perform a printhead deep cleaning. If still, the problem persists, switch off your printer and do the deep cleaning after a day.

Ink or toner: If the printer`s red ink or toner cartridge is low or empty, it may not be able to print red. Check the ink levels and replace the cartridge if necessary. Prints that appear more green are commonly caused by an absence of magenta ink/toner being put to paper by your printer. In addition to your prints looking “greener” you may also notice yellow and blue areas appear almost neon due to the the magenta not being able to give them more realistic tones.

Take a warm damp paper towel or coffee filter and blot the cartridge with the printhead facing down onto the paper towel. This will remove any dried ink on the printhead. Then, hold the cartridge with the printhead facing down against a dry paper towel for 2-3 minutes.

If your PC or the LCD screen on your printer is telling you that your ink cartridges are full but no ink is passing through to the paper, then it`s most likely that you are dealing with a clogged printhead. Blurry documents and images that appear faded are also signs that it`s time to remove the excess ink.

First, locate your print head. Next, dip a q-tip in a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and warm, not hot, water. Swab the q-tip along your print head and dislodge any dry pieces of ink that may be causing blockages. Once you`re satisfied that your print head is clean, allow it to dry overnight.

Another factor that could be affecting your colour ink consumption is the amount of printing from a computer, even if the print jobs are black only. Because this machine offers full colour printing, the default setting in the print driver is COLOUR.

Inkjet printers work via subtractive color mixing. As different colors of ink are combined, each ink absorbs (subtracts) its characteristic colors and amounts of light. The light that is then reflected back to our eyes is what we see as different colors.

With the printer powered on, select Setup . Select Device settings . Scroll to the bottom of the menu list and select Reset settings. In the Reset settings menu, select the desired area you want to set back to the factory defaults.

The ink levels may be low and you may need to refill the ink. Visually check the ink levels. Also make sure you filled the tanks with the correct colors of ink. After you print, the colors in your printout need time to set as the ink dries.

ANSWER : Yeah I’m having the same problem with my Canon MX882. I’ve refilled the pigment tank, cleaned the print head and I still get no pigment black at all. I think it has something to do with the purge unit, but I don’t see any instructions on how to clean it. If I can figure it out, I’ll let you know.

ANSWER : Printer cleanings use wet ink to clear dried up ink. Yeah, that works real well. The best way to clean the heads is remove all the ink tanks. Next to the tanks on the right, there is a plastic release lever. Pull up on it and it will release the heads. Reach in and pull them out. Take the heads over to the sink and run hot tap water into the screen for the black and then turn it over and run it over the heads on the bottom. Repeat a few times and reinstall.

ANSWER : Take out the ink tanks. On the right side there is a plastic release lever. Lift it up and the heads will unlock. Reach in and remove the heads. Take it to the sink and run hot water through the screens on top and then flip it over and run hot water over the heads. Repeat a few times until the water is clear. Reinstall and try again. It might take a couple pages for the print to look good.

ANSWER : One thing to try is to remove the printhead and flush the magenta nozzle under hot running tap water. Take all the ink out and there is a lever on the right that releases the print head from the assy.
