I have a canon mx320 and when ever I print I get a long blk line down the right side of my page. The larger copiers used to have corona and drum but this small printer doesn’t have that. How do you fix this?
Experienced technical support provide their insights in answering this question :
If you are using the ADF feeder to make copies, then check the small glass on the left side. If there is any dirt or whiteout on the glass, it will result in a line down that spot. You can confirm it by looking at the copy that has the line. If it is dirt on the glass, the line won’t go all the way from top to bottom. There will be a margin on each end.
How to Identify and Fix Common printer Problems ?

This happens when the rollers or the transfer belt inside the printer get dirty or covered in excess dirt, ink or toner powder, and as the paper is moved through the printer the `tracks` are being left on the page. This is normally the case when the tracks on the page are located at either end.
“Lines on a Copy” is a common copier issue that describes when you find solid black, gray, or white lines on copy, where the original does not have such lines. “Lines on a Copy” is caused by debris on the scanner glass. Debris can range from dust, wite-out, or ink.
There might be dirt or smudges where the original is scanned. Clean the platen glass and feeder.
Dots are typically caused by foreign material inside the machine (for example, paper dust, glue from labels or envelopes, paper clips, staples) sticking to or damaging the surface of the drum. Toner builds up on or sticks to these areas on the drum and creates black dots on the printed pages.
Remove any toner or other debris from the drum by spraying it with compressed air. Place the drum back in the copier carefully, and replace the toner cartridge. With the glass cleaned, loose toner removed and the drum cleaned, the streaks should be gone.
A thick black vertical line(s) that appear on the faxes you send, the images you scan into the computer and copies you make usually indicates a problem with the scanner unit and the machine will require service.
Bleed refers to an extra 1/8” (. 125 in) of image or background color that extends beyond the trim area of your printing piece. The project is printed on an oversized sheet that is then cut down to size with the appearance that the image is “bleeding” off the edge of the paper.
Streaks and unwanted lines could mean that the printer heads are out of alignment. There`s an alignment tool in the printer`s control panel. If that`s not the issue then the printer is dirty. Printer ink stripes may appear along the edges of the paper, which means there`s ink on the rollers and other parts.
What Is Banding? Banding is a defect in inkjet printing that will appear as horizontal or vertical lines, streaks or bands in the printed output. Everyone will eventually experience some type of banding with their inkjet printer.
There are four primary causes for horizontal banding on prints from inkjet printers, (1) nozzle clogs, (2) mis-aligned print heads, (3) low quality print settings (4) incorrect paper thickness settings.
Black and white scan mode is typically used for documents that contain text, where everything that is a printed character displays as black on the scan and the background white (unprinted). Black and white mode forces everything darker than a certain threshold to black and everything else as white.
A barcode scanner will read this pattern of black and white bars and translate them into a line of test that your retail point of sale system can understand.

A dark line has appeared running down the centre of the copies
ANSWER : Assuming you are using the ADF feeder, try cleaning the long thin glass to the left of the main copy glass. It seems that nobody realizes that this glass is used exclusively by the ADF for copying. More than 1/2 of the copiers I’ve worked on have white-out or dirt on this glass and nobody thinks to clean it. Any dirt or white-out on this glass will result in a line since the copy moves past the scanner and the stationary spot is perceived as a line.
