Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

Canon printers produce error codes for one of several reasons: The settings for your printer might not be compatible with the document you`re trying to print. The loading bay for your paper might have become lodged with paper or you`re using the wrong type of paper.
The ink has run out. The lamp on the ink tank flashes. Replace the ink tank, and close the top cover. If a print is in progress and you want to continue, tap RESUME/CANCEL, with the ink tank installed.
Canon MG2540 – Error Codes

Two flashes – Machine is out of paper or paper does not feed. Three flashes – Paper jam. Four flashes – The cartridge is not installed properly. Five flashes – The cartridge is not installed properly.

Three flashes: Paper jam

The paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper properly in the printer, and then press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Ink may have run out (The lamp on the ink tank flashes). If printing is in progress, you are recommended to stop printing, replace the ink tank, and then print again.
When an error occurs in printing such as the machine is out of paper or paper is jammed, a troubleshooting message is displayed automatically. Take the appropriate action described in the message. When an error occurs, the Alarm lamp flashes orange and a Support Code (error number) is displayed on the computer screen.
Open Settings -> Devices -> Printers and Scanners (or run a quick access URI command: ms-settings:printers ); Select a printer you want to remove and click Remove Device; Confirm the printer removal.
Ten flashes: The Front Tray is not set to its correct position./The Front Tray was moved during printing. When printing from the Rear Tray, return the Front Tray to its normal printing position, make sure that paper is loaded in the Rear Tray, then press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to resume printing.
Meaning: the printer is out of paper / No paper. Solution: Reload paper in the rear tray and press the Resume / Cancel button. Meaning: the paper exit tray is closed / Paper jam.
Instead, you simply need to override the empty error message that is being displayed by holding down the “stop / reset” button on the printer for around five seconds. The printer should continue printing, and use any of the remaining ink in the cartridge.
With the printer powered on, select Setup . Select Device settings . Scroll to the bottom of the menu list and select Reset settings. In the Reset settings menu, select the desired area you want to set back to the factory defaults.
1. Paper Jams. Paper jams are a common problem for printers, resulting in time-consuming and frustrating delays. It can occur when loose sheets of paper get stuck in the rollers or feeding mechanism of the printer.
Verify the ink cartridge(s) is inserted properly. Some cartridges snap in place, and if they are not inserted fully, the printer won`t print anything. If a lever is moved from its original position to allow for installation of ink cartridges, ensure it is returned to its original position.
Disconnect the printer cable from the printer, turn the printer off, and then unplug the printer from the power supply. Plug the printer back in and turn the printer back on. If the problem is not resolved, contact your Canon service representative.

ip4200 INK TANK RESET and WASTE TANK RESET
ANSWER : Different cartridges, notwithstanding, don’t have a ‘fill gap’ so you’ll have to make one yourself. Our refill units for these sorts of cartridges accompany a smolder apparatus which is utilized to blaze (really dissolve) a fill opening in the cartridge . Our refill guidelines will demonstrate you precisely where to make the fill opening (you would prefer not to make it in the wrong spot). A blaze device come standard in all refill packs for cartridges without processing plant made fill openings. if you want to get proper detailed information then call us at 1-888-924-2961for more information regarding canon printer support.

Ink Tank Cannot Be Recognized(Canon mp500)
ANSWER : My MX922 ran out of yellow (slowly) then didn’t recognize first one and then a second new Canon CLI-251 yellow cartridge. I’ve always used Canon. Then I inserted a 251a Y (extra large) yellow, and it worked immediately – for how long, I don’t know. Guess I’ll order another set of XL ink tanks – either that or a new printer.

waste ink tank
ANSWER : There is no waste ink “tank”. There are some sponges and they usually are about 1/4 saturated when you get the message. If you want to go through the trouble to remove them, you can just wash them in hot water and dry them out as the ink is water soluble. Or, you can search the web for a waste tank reset procedure and not worry about it.
