AddOn 6ft USB 2.0 (A) Male to USB 2.0 (B) Male Black Cable. The USB Connector from laptop to the printer was easy to find on the website.
A USB cable connects your printer to your computer, so you have a direct connection every time you print. The majority of printers are compatible with a USB 2.0 A/B cable.
The USB cable used for printers is called a USB AB cable, named for the plugs on each end. The USB-A end is a flat, rectangular plug; the USB-B end is a square plug with two curved edges, which goes into the printer.
Almost all printer USB cables are universal. They usually have a USB Type-A connector on one end and a USB Type-B connector in another end. This is because most computers have a Type-A port and printers have a Type-B port.
Purchasing Cables

Any USB cable that has the standard connectors will work with any USB printer. This is important to know because printer manufacturers rarely include a USB cable with the printer itself.

Your printer should have been packaged with a USB cable regardless of whether it is a wireless or wired printer. Plug the cable into your printer and your computer`s USB port. The direct linking should trigger your computer to recognize the printer and start up the software needed to complete the installation.
All USB ports are 5 volts DC. The transformer (or computer) will take care of converting the 120/220 AC current to the necessary 5 volts DC. You will not fry anything. The available current can vary though.
A printer cable works by connecting one end of the cable to the printer and the other end to a computer port. When a user sends a print command, it is transmitted via the printer cable from the computer to the printer, which then prints the data.
An Ethernet network can be used for one or more computers and supports many printers and systems simultaneously. An Ethernet connection is typically faster than USB and allows you direct access to the settings of the printer using the Embedded Web Server.
The purpose of USB “Standard-B Connector” was to prevent `end user termination`. Put simply, they were afraid home users might get the cables mixed up and plug your computer into your computer or your printer into your printer.
A wireless printer will still need a USB cable in case it needs to print in a location where Wi-Fi would not be available. Having a printer without a wire connection option can lessen the printer`s marketability.
When comparing 2.0 and 3.0 there are a few major differences. First the transfer rates: USB 2.0 offers transfer rates of 480 Mbps and USB 3.0 offers transfer rates of 4.8 Gbps – that`s 10 times faster. Note that the transfer speeds also depend on the device in use in addition to the bus type and USB ports and cables.
USB Type B

Also known as USB standard B connector, the B style connector is designed for USB peripherals, such as printer, upstream port on hub, or other larger peripheral devices.

The purpose of USB “Standard-B Connector” was to prevent `end user termination`. Put simply, they were afraid home users might get the cables mixed up and plug your computer into your computer or your printer into your printer.
To ensure maximum compatibility and performance, HP recommends using an HP branded USB Type-C power adapter and cable.
