How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced technical support :

If the print quality is poor, try adjusting the print density, verify you are using genuine Brother paper rolls, and try cleaning the machine print head and roller.
Press [Settings]>[Maintenance]>[Print Setting Options]. Select this option according to whether you are using 1-sided or 2-sided printing if you have problems with smudged printouts or paper jams. Select this option if you use a type of plain paper on which ink dries slowly. Follow the LCD menus.
Check if paper you are using matches the type of paper we recommend. The use of paper which curled or has been printed on another side already may cause the paper jam. The use of non recommended paper may cause the print quality problem. To avoid the problem, please use the recommended paper and try to print again.
If you notice that your print quality is uneven, too light, too dark, or there are vertical or horizontal lines in the print (banding), try these solutions: Run a nozzle check to see if any of the print head nozzles are clogged. Then clean the print head, if necessary.
Among the more common technical issues that may bring down a printer are disconnected cables, malfunctioning routers, and low ink levels. Moreover, software problems such as interrupted connections or incorrect settings in your system`s drivers can also cause your printer to show up as offline.
The most obvious is most common on laser color printers and can be detected by a flashing message on the printer display screen. Other signs of a bad printer drum include printing blank pages, printing gray pages and strange sounds coming from the printer as it prints.
Print quality is mostly measured in DPI, which is quite similar to the definition of pixels in terms of digital images and even screen resolution. DPI is equivalent to the ability of a printer to mimic the number of pixels or the resolution of the source image.
When preparing images for print, the highest quality images are desired. The ideal file format choice for print is TIFF, followed closely by PNG.
Generally, 300 DPI is great for small prints, while 600 DPI is amazing for large prints. If you`re scanning documents or photos to be used on the web or in emails, 300 dpi is more than enough. If you want to print large photos or blow them up to poster size, 600 dpi will give you better results.
Monitors use RGB whereas printers use CMYK. This means that RGB colour mode is best for digital designs, while CMYK is best for print materials. You can switch your colour guide to CMYK, but it still won`t be an exact representation of your printed product as the colours can depend on the printer.

If it is currently set to 800×600 pixels screen size, then the image is obviously 800 dots / 10.6 inches = 75 dpi apparent resolution in that case. The number in the first column (like 800×600 pixels) is called the resolution of video systems.

Brother MFC-9400CN Print Unable 2A FIX
ANSWER : I had that same problem, I have a MFC-9840CDW also. I went in and removed the three components Toner Tray, Transfer belt, and waste toner box. First thing no one mentioned is that you cannot just put your toner tray down when you take it out. Look at the bottom, those are light sensitive drums on the bottom. I put mine on its side with the bottom away from light and then covered it with a small black clean trash bag. Nothing touching the bottom, and protected from light. Also the transfer belt should not be placed down on the actual belt. The belt is basically the width of the unit and very delicate. same thing, on its side and covered with a clean bag. away from kids, dogs, cats, hamsters etc…lol. The waste toner box is safe to put on your desk.
