Brother MFC 9840CDW
I have a Brother MFC-9840CDW purchased in 2008. It has been a good printer over the years. In the last few months, the printer has started to give intermittent “Print Unable 32” errors. Sometimes the error will appear repeatedly and refuse to print anything, and then the printer will work fine the next day. Other times, a power off cycle will clear the problem and the printer will print fine.I have checked the printer extensively for any type of jammed paper in the paper path with nothing found, removed everything (toner, drum, fuser, waste toner unit, belt unit, etc.), and done the repair on the sticky “print density” sensor even though it did not appear to be sticking. At this point, I need a working printer and am tempted to just replace it. The only reason I am hesitant is that it has a fairly new set of high capacity Brother OEM toner cartridges (set cost a little over $400), plus the reviews on new printers seem to indicate much poorer quality these days.Does anyone have ideas on what else could be causing the error? Has anyone had this error caused by the belt unit (BU-100CL) or waste toner (WT-100CL)? I am tempted to try replacing those parts, but don’t feel like continuing down this path if it is a lost cause.

You may face the “printer not activated error code –20/30” for different reasons. Besides, this error may also be caused when your printer device is not set as default.
Your printer displays the “Missing or Failed Printhead” error to signal a malfunctioning printhead. The issue could be due to clogged ink nozzles, dirty ink cartridges, internal paper jams, and more. HP printers may also display this error if the printhead pulls air from ink cartridges.
Just above the circuit board on most printer cartridges, you`ll find a small button. You`ve seen these tiny buttons before on cell phones, phone chargers, etc. This is your reset button, and the only way to get in there is either with a paper clip or the tip of a pen (which will leave a tiny ink smudge on the button).
The drum unit may need replacing if you notice the printer producing blurry, low-quality images. Black or colored toner spots on printouts also indicates a failing drum unit. In some cases, horizontal lines may develop across the printout every time the paper passes the failing part of the drum.
Use the drum unit until you have a print quality problem, then replace the drum unit with a new one. The yield of a drum unit is approx. 15,000 pages (1 page/job). There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as the temperature, humidity, type of paper, type of toner used and so on.

The Drum Error is another common error experienced by users of Brother printers. Both the error message “Drum Error” and “Clean Drum Unit” mean that the drum unit of your machine is dirty. The dirt may be caused by dust or by loose toner.

Do a hard reset on your printer. To do this you just need to turn off your printer, unplug for a few minutes and then plug the printer again. Brother MFC-9400CN Print Unable 2A FIX
ANSWER : I had that same problem, I have a MFC-9840CDW also. I went in and removed the three components Toner Tray, Transfer belt, and waste toner box. First thing no one mentioned is that you cannot just put your toner tray down when you take it out. Look at the bottom, those are light sensitive drums on the bottom. I put mine on its side with the bottom away from light and then covered it with a small black clean trash bag. Nothing touching the bottom, and protected from light. Also the transfer belt should not be placed down on the actual belt. The belt is basically the width of the unit and very delicate. same thing, on its side and covered with a clean bag. away from kids, dogs, cats, hamsters etc…lol. The waste toner box is safe to put on your desk.
