How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

A charged wire in a laser printer that draws the toner off the drum onto the paper. It must be cleaned when the toner cartridge is replaced.
Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right and right to left several times. Repeat this for all the corona wires. To avoid poor print quality, be sure to lock the green tab into the home position (1), flush left with the left side of the drum.
The corona wire uses static electricity to coat both the photoreceptive drum and the copy paper with a layer of positively charged ions. For a photocopier to work, a field of positive charges must be generated on the surface of both the drum and the copy paper. These tasks are accomplished by the corona wires.
A laser printer is a very high voltage, low amp, static charge generator. A bare corona wire carries a high voltage of 600 to 900 volts to apply an even charge over the surface of an organic photoconductive coating on a grounded steel bar.
Before the paper rolls under the drum, it is given a negative charge by the transfer corona wire (charged roller). This charge is stronger than the negative charge of the electrostatic image, so the paper can pull the toner powder away.
Supporting industries through electronic parts, vacuum parts, and tungsten processing. We make wire processed parts made of refractory metals such as tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, and titanium.
What effect does a dirty primary corona wire have on laser printing? It leaves black stripes on the paper. If the charging corona does not apply the correct charge evenly to the drum, toner is attracted to the place where the charging failed, creating a black stripe all the way down the page.

Brother HL-2040 Drum Light Driving Me Crazy!
ANSWER : Cleaning the drum unit with QTip dipped in alcohol did not get rid of the drum light. But I shined the inside of the printer and saw lots of toner. Cleaning it with the QTip dipped in alcohol where the drum unit would be inserted did get rid of the drum light! Saved me lots of money, I had bought two drum kits before to get rid of the drum light but it turned out the printer inside was dirty. So could have saved lots of money! Thanks to this forum for bringing it to my attention. So far this printer has been working for over 10 years and the parts are cheaper now.
