How to Identify and Fix Common Problems ?

Look for a black rubber frame under the ink cartridge assembly. This contains the ink absorbing pads.
When the message “Ink absorber full.” is displayed, the printer stops printing and needs ink absorber replacement. Push the power button to turn OFF the printer, and then contact the service center for replacement.
Machine Error 46 indicates that the ink absorber pad is full and needs replacing. You will need an engineer to replace this. If your machine is out of warranty, please contact Brother Customer Service from “Contact Us”. The ink absorbers hold liquid and dried ink after it has been purged from the print head.
Only use alcohol-based pad cleaning fluid, the smallest amount required to do the job. Avoid strong solvents. Use them only for initial removal of silicone oil on the surface. After cleaning, apply rejuvenating oil to the surface before resting for at least 24 hours.
There are a number of porous pads in the printer that collect, distribute, and contain ink that is not used on printed pages. Ink is collected by these pads during the initial setup of the product, during cleaning cycles, and when printing borderless photographs.
An inkpad is a small box that contains a pad of cloth or other material. It is impregnated with ink (the pad is inky). A marker is pressed onto the pad, then onto paper. Any raised marks on the pad leave an impression in ink on the paper.
Open your dried ink pad and its corresponding reinker. Gently squeeze the liquid ink onto your pad in a zig-zag pattern to cover the whole surface area. Set aside and allow the ink to absorb; repeat if needed until the pad is adequately saturated.
Over time, ink pads can start to dry out. Instead of tossing them aside, re-ink them using an ink or pigment refill kit.
The error message `Unable to Clean 46` is an indication that the machines ink absorbers are almost full. The ink absorbers hold liquid and dried ink after it has been purged from the print head. These absorbers can control enough ink for the expected life of the machine.

waste ink pad
ANSWER : Pretty hard to replace. You can just reset the counter. The waste pad holds enough that you can reset it at least twice without worrying. Worst that can happen is ink leaks out the bottom of the printer. Read this thread for procedure. http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/printer/40500
