Printing on both sides of paper is called duplex printing. Most printers offer the option of automatically printing on both sides of a sheet of paper (automatic duplex printing). Other printers provide instructions so that you can manually reinsert pages to print the second side (manual duplex printing).
First verify that the duplex option has been added under the Device or Install Options tab of the print driver software. To do this: Go to the list of installed printers on your PC, right click the name of the printer affected, and select Properties. Click the Device tab.
Click the General tab, and then click Printing Preferences. Click the Basics tab, and then click About. Locate the page count at the bottom of the About This Driver screen.
Sometimes a paper jam error persists even though there is no jammed paper (false paper jam). Reset the printer, which might clear a false paper jam error, and then try to print again. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
Duplexed documents can be printed to be bound on either the short edge or the long edge. This functionality is mostly available on printers that come with a duplexer. Long edge binding in portrait mode allows pages to be turned side-to-side like a book.
HP printers not printing double-sided or duplex is a very common issue which could be due to several reasons, such as misconfigured printer settings, failed print jobs in queue, outdated drivers or a random glitch.
A piece of paper stuck in the paper tray or inside the printer can create a paper jam. Paper jams can occur for a variety of reasons, such as overloading the paper tray, loading different thicknesses of paper in the tray, or using paper that isn`t appropriate for your particular printer.
Duplex printing means that you can print on both sides of the paper with your printer either automatically or manually by turning the paper over after the first side has printed.
Is duplex printing the same as double-sided? Both duplex printing and double-sided printing end up with the same result – a piece of paper with information printed on both sides. Double-sided printing is the outcome, whereas duplex printing is the technology that creates this outcome.
Go to control panel, devices and printers, right click the icon for the printer and from the drop down menu select printer properties. On the window that opens click advanced and then printer defaults and turn off duplex.
Duplex printing means that your printer supports printing on both sides of the paper. Printers that are only capable of printing out documents single-sided are sometimes called simplex printers.
To duplex print, your model will need to have the functionality built-in. Simplex printing, on the other hand, only allows for printing on one side of the paper. Duplex printing is also known as double sided printing.

Darker (not black) vertical band about 3/8" wide 3 1/2" from left edge only on odd sheets and only in duplex mode
ANSWER : If you are using letter sized paper, then this is a horizontal band since the paper feeds in landscape mode. Either way it is a really odd problem. There is no way it could be either the fuser or the toner as both of those would consistently do the problem, not intermittently. Also, does the band go all the way across the page or does it have borders on either end.
